Saudi jobs await passers of leakage-tainted nursing exam

At least 5,000 jobs await Filipino nurses who passed the leakage-tainted June 2006 licensure examination in Saudi Arabia.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) yesterday called on last year’s nursing licensure board passers to try their luck in Saudi Arabia or countries other than the United States.

“Recent nursing licensure exam passers are invited to apply for a no-placement fee hiring,” POEA chief Rosalinda Baldoz said.

Baldoz issued the call as he noted that the POEA and the Saudi Ministry of Health are holding a nationwide search for nurses who will fill up about 5,000 vacancies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

It will be recalled that many of those who passed the controversial nursing licensure examination were barred from working in the United States until they retake the tests.

POEA initially conducted recruitment of nurses in various Mindanao provinces as the Saudi government specifically requested that Muslim nurses be assigned in the holy cities of Makkah and Medina.

“Between 300 to 500 Muslim nurses will be deployed to the holy cities and the Saudi Ministry is willing to hire even those who are yet to pass the nursing licensure examination,” Baldoz pointed out.

Baldoz added that even those who do not have hospital experience may qualify for the vacancies, since the Saudi government is offering on-the-job training for them upon hiring.
