A FORMER examiner of this year’s nursing licensure exams pleaded not guilty to charges of illegal recruitment and estafa (fraud) before a local court on Tuesday, GMA Network’s “Flash Report” said.

The report said Virginia Madeja, one of two examiners whose tests had allegedly been leaked to this year’s nursing students, appeared before the Manila regional trial court with lawyer Rene Saguisag.

The report quoted Saguisag as saying that his client would also petition the court for her transfer to a hospital from the Philippine National Police custodial center where she had been detained since Friday.

Madeja was brought to the PNP General Hospital after her blood pressure shot up and she complained of shortness of breath following her arrest Thursday.

The report said Saguisag would also file a petition for bail for Madeja who is also being investigated by the National Bureau of Investigation for her alleged role in the alleged leak during the nursing board exams last June.

Madeja was arrested on a warrant that stemmed from charges filed by two nurses whom she allegedly duped in 2001 by offering what turned out to be non-existent jobs abroad.

Police said the complainants recognized Madeja from television news footage of her attendance at the Senate investigation into the nursing exam leakage.

This just goes to show na hindi masusi ang ginawa ni Gloria Arroyo sa pagpili ng mga govt oficials. Diyos ko, illegal recruiter pala ang isang examiner natin. Dapat mabitay siya.
