Govt hospitals hire June nursing board passers
Some passers of the nursing exam in June have been hired by at least two government hospitals despite the ongoing controversy over the leaked tests, ANC reported Thursday.
"At least mapapatunayan namin na competent talaga kami kaya kami pumasa at may ospital na nagtitiwala sa amin (It only shows that we're competent because we passed and that hospitals trust us)," said Anna Marie Pamplona, who now works as a trainee at the Pasig City General Hospital.
Pamplona said PCGH administration promised to hire her as part of its nursing staff once she gets her license.
"Tatanggap kami ng 2006 board passers. Gusto namin sila bigyan ng chance kaya we are training them (We'll take passers from the 2006 board exam. We want to give them a chance)," said Ninfa Ignacia, the hospital's chief nurse.
Aside from Pamplona, about 20 more board passers are now undergoing training at the Pasig hospital.
The report said there are other hospitals aside from PCGH that are willing to accept passers of the June 2006 Nursing Licensure Examinations.
One of them is the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, a government-owned and -controlled corporate tertiary specialty center. The hospital said it is not discriminating against new nurses.
"I would give them my trust, we will give them the opportunity na patunayan ang kanilang kakayahan (We'll give them the opportunity to prove their capability)," said Jane Sta. Ana, the hospital's deputy director for nursing services.
The hiring of new nurses by these government hospitals followed the assurance by overseas-based staffing companies that they would get the services of the June 2006 passers despite the controversy as long as they have their licenses.
A California-based company came to Manila at the height of the controversy to assure passers that they will get their chances to work abroad.
Filipino nurses in the United Kingdom earlier worried that British hospitals would shun the new passers because of the exam leakage. They, however, said no official statement has been released and that hospitals in Britain still prefer Filipino nurses.
