THE Professional Regulation Commission has recommended to President Macapagal-Arroyo the dismissal of two members of the Board of Nursing (BON) who had purportedly leaked test questions in the June nursing board examination.

The PRC found Virginia Madeja and Anesia Dionisio guilty of “neglect of duty” after gathering the testimonies of witnesses in the cheating, Commissioner Renato Valdecantos told the Inquirer.

“Only the President can officially dismiss them based on our recommendation. Once they are dismissed, they are automatically disqualified from holding any government office,” Valdecantos said yesterday, adding that the PRC had also revoked the two women’s nursing licenses.

It was Madeja and Dionisio who wrote the questions for Test III (medical and surgical nursing) and Test V (psychiatric nursing), respectively, in the controversial exam.

Valdecantos had earlier headed a fact-finding committee assigned to investigate the leak.

‘No retake’ position

The committee subsequently recommended the filing of administrative charges against Madeja and Dionisio.

Valdecantos expressed satisfaction with the decision of the Court of Appeals ordering the PRC to administer the oath to all board passers except those required to retake Tests III and V.

“We are happy that our position of ‘no retake’ has been sustained by the court. We are happy that those who had nothing to do with the leakage will be allowed to take their oath,” he said.

Valdecantos said the PRC would immediately carry out the court’s order. He also expressed the hope that the decision would “be accepted by all those concerned so this issue can be formally closed.”
