‘Exempt Vis-Min passers from nursing exam retake'
Sen. Ralph Recto on Sunday said examinees who passed the leakage-marred June 2006 Nursing Licensure Examination in the Visayas and Mindanao should not be required to take it again.
Recto also called for the exemption of those who took the examination in the Luzon cities of Legazpi, Tuguegarao and Lucena.
"Why punish them when they were far from the scene of the crime so to speak? Proximity, or the lack of it, rules them out as participants in the cheating," Recto said in a statement.
The June 11and 12 tests were held in the cities of Cebu, Iloilo and Tacloban in the Visayas; and in Cagayan de Oro, Davao and Zamboanga in Mindanao, aside from venues in Luzon.
Recto said the National Bureau of Investigation's probe into the leakage of questions ahead of the examination concluded that the incident was confined only to Manila and Baguio City.
He said Visayas, Mindanao, Southern Tagalog, Bicol and Cagayan Valley examinees of the 500-question board exam passed it "fair and square."
President Arroyo earlier ordered the retake of the June nursing board examination to redeem the image of Filipino nurses here and abroad.
Mrs. Arroyo ordered Labor Secretary Arturo Brion to coordinate with officials of the Professional Regulation Commission to discuss the details of the retake of the examinations that was marred by a leakage of test questions.
