IN CONRADO DE QUIROS’ COLUMN “Cheating” (PDI, 10/10/06), my quote was touted as a vindication of the President’s way of resolving the nursing exam controversy.
Such is not the case.
Such is not the case.
The praise that I seemingly gave Malacañang was made in the context of its past actions on matters of local and international importance—where, in gung-ho fashion, it would intrude into the autonomy of other government branches over concerns within their domains. Rarely has Malacañang treated with caution a situation with possible populist, socio-politico and economic spins. Having treated the nursing exam scandal so, that alone deserves some form of kudos, and that was the spirit on which my commendation was founded.
I agree with De Quiros on the key points he discussed in that column, and I appreciate that he acknowledged my stand. I am also taking this opportunity to expound on his main premise by including the following measures: deferring to the appellate court which is now studying the resolution; and ensuring a retake if, and only if, all questions have been satisfactorily answered and all culpable parties have been dealt with in a satisfactory fashion.
