MALACAÑANG should certify as urgent a bill seeking to abolish the Board of Nursing (BON), which has been widely blamed for the leakage in the June licensure exam, a lawmaker at the House of Representatives said Tuesday.

Pasig Representative Robert “Dodot” Jaworski Jr said recent events were “glaring indications of the obvious fact that the BON has become irrelevant and no longer serves the purpose for which it was created.”

“No better proof for such irrelevance is the fact that thousands of nurses have already left for abroad and thousands more wanting to migrate,” Jaworski said in a statement.

House Bill 3706 that seeks to repeal Republic Act 9173 of the Philippine Nursing Act of 2002, which created the BON, was filed by Jaworski even before the scandal broke out.

At least 30 legislators have signed the bill as co-authors.

Jaworski said “delicadeza dictates that the BON must go.”

“By certifying HB3706 an urgent administration bill, Malacañang will be issuing a strong statement aimed at vindicating the integrity and decency of the nursing profession before the international community,” he said.

Two of six board members of the BON had been implicated in the leakage of questions that were given during the June 11 and 12 tests.

Meanwhile, Zamboanga del Sur Representative Antonio Cerilles and Bulacan Representative Lorna Silverio appealed for calm and patience until the Court of Appeals rules on a motion for reconsideration filed by the University of Santo Tomas College of Nursing Faculty Association and two other groups.

This developed after the Court of Appeals ordered a retake of over 1,000 board passers.

But Cerilles said he believed that that there was no need for a retake.

“What must be done is to punish all officials responsible for the leakage of test questions for the licensure exam,” he said.

“These should include the examiners and their employees and also employees of the PRC [Professional Regulation Commission], who were involved in the leakage. The passers who did not resort to cheating should be allowed to take their oath,” he said.

Silverio urged all sectors concerned to keep their faith in the Appellate Court for an immediate and fair ruling on the issue.

“I believe it's just a matter of time before we are finally over with the exam controversy,” she said.

“We urge the passers and their families and everyone else concerned to remain calm and patiently await the CA's final ruling,” she said.

Wala ng retake o no retake !!! Brilliant !!!

Shame on all the BON, who are the worst, it obvious the reason why they were overstaying their position is because of the power and corruption that they get from it...they are the ones who destroyed the integrity of all filipino nurses, present or future...instead of being an example of what a nurse should be, what did they do, they betrayed all the nurses..starting with the stupid and subjective board question that they make, so they could sell it as leakage, to the fees they ask for giving their speeches and or lectures, and to the selling of their supposely nursing review materials...they should be hang in public for the hardship that they have inflicted to the thousands upon thousands of passers and non passer of the june 06 board examination

DODOT, mag basketball ka na lang kahit di ka din magaling maglaro. Bobo ka talaga eh.

Dapat parusahan ang BON Members na guilty, pero hindi po dapat i-abolish ang BON!

Me utak ka ba Dodot? HA!?
