Retaking the Nursing Board Exam
Retaking the Nursing Board Exam

THE President has ordered nursing graduates who took the licensure examinations last June to retake the two test sections previously questioned after a questionnaire was leaked before the tests were administered.
The move is to put to an end to the doubts on the competence of the examinees and to the questions on the integrity of the entire nursing profession.
It may be unfair for those who did well and received excellent ratings even without resorting to cheating during the examinations.
However, there is no other logical direction to prove the competence and excellence of our graduates but to administer the test again. We have to prove to the world that our graduates are among the best in the world. Otherwise, the question will forever hound this year's batch and the batches that will come after them.

For those who studied well and are fully confident of what they have learned in the nursing school, retaking the exam should not be a problem.
But for those who would rather pass the licensure examination by way of a leaked information, taking another test which could be administered more strictly this time will indeed be a problem.
The monetary consideration should not even become an issue here. After all, what is a few thousand pesos when compared to the hundreds of thousands they are going to earn once they get an employment abroad?
It is but too small a price to pay to regain a lost integrity.
After all, not one Filipino nursing school graduate would want to be described as someone who became a nurse because he/she cheated in the licensure examination of June 2006.
If we want to prove that our nurses are that competent and worthy of jobs abroad, then there is no other way but a retake.

US, PASSERS SINCE NOT ALL OF US CHEAT--WE DO NOT FEEL INCOMPETENT AT ALL...AND FOR YOUR INFORMATION, WE ARE NOT EVEN WORRIED EVEN IF SOME PEOPLE WOULD LOOK AT US AS CHEATERS--BECAUSE WE KNOW IN OUR OWN HEARTS AND GOD KNOWS THAT MOST OF US DID NOT CHEAT--STIGMA IS JUST FOR THOSE WHO CHEATED AND FOR THOSE WHOSE NEVER CONTENTED OF WHAT THEY HAVE..AFTER ALL THE HARDSHIPS WE'VE EXPERIENCED DURING THE BOARD--I THINK AND WE ARE VERY PROUD TO SAY THAT WE ARE COMPETENT NURSES AND WE NEED NOT PROVE ANYTHING---SO PLS..FOR THOSE WHO WERE NOT ABLE TO MAKE IT---STOP SOURGRAPING ANG MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIVES.....THERE'S MORE TO LIFE!!!

"The move is to put to an end to the doubts on the competence of the examinees and to the questions on the integrity of the entire nursing profession."
Are you sure it will put an end to their doubts?... Until now, after hundreds of years after the Spanish colonization and decades after the liberation some people still think of us as "brown monkeys"...
"However, there is no other logical direction to prove the competence and excellence of our graduates but to administer the test again. We have to prove to the world that our graduates are among the best in the world. Otherwise, the question will forever hound this year's batch and the batches that will come after them."
No other logical direction?... How about punishing the guilty?... Or is that so illogical given that we are in the Philippines? Why are so many people concerned about what hounds this batch of examinees?... It's no different from what hounds you everyday as a Filipino... That we are nothing more than a 3rd world country and nothing better than what they have in the US or any 1st world country could come from the Philippines... Aren't you concerned about the examinee who's life has been in limbo since June?
"For those who studied well and are fully confident of what they have learned in the nursing school, retaking the exam should not be a problem."
Ok ka lang?... 100% full proof ba ang 2nd exam na yan?... Anyone who is confident about what he learned in school is confident to practice this profession...
"But for those who would rather pass the licensure examination by way of a leaked information, taking another test which could be administered more strictly this time will indeed be a problem."
Strictly?... They don't even have the specifics of the exam. Even Sec. Brion doesn't want to comment about the next exam because it's still in the works... Strictly?... That is an unsafe presumption... In the first place, shouldn't all exams be administered strictly?
"The monetary consideration should not even become an issue here. After all, what is a few thousand pesos when compared to the hundreds of thousands they are going to earn once they get an employment abroad?"
The monetary consideration is not the issue because no monetary consideration can pay for the emotional and psychological anguish the examinees have experienced since late June of this year.
"It is but too small a price to pay to regain a lost integrity."
It is too small for people with too little integrity to start with.
"After all, not one Filipino nursing school graduate would want to be described as someone who became a nurse because he/she cheated in the licensure examination of June 2006."
Of course not, but we have already been called that in the papers and in tv... Or haven't you noticed?
"If we want to prove that our nurses are that competent and worthy of jobs abroad, then there is no other way but a retake."
Filipino nurses abroad have already proven that... People with vested interests have just blown everything out of proportion... Since UST does not want to relate this issue with the issues in PT and the Bar exams... this issue ought to have been treated as an isolated incident but to favor their interests and interests of some important people they are treating this in the broadest context possible. Also, so as not to appear incompetent, the gov't would like to punish someone since they are incapable of punishing the perpetrators due to a loophole in the policies. You see, they have been busy trying to convince people of the integrity of the last elections and grooming themselves for the next elections... sigh...

I AGREE WITH THE WRITER.....YES TO RETAKE.....FOR ALL NO RE-TAKES....THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO STUDY AGAIN AND BE PREPARED AGAIN...WALA NAMAN MAWAWALA KUNG MAG-REVIEW ULIT, MAY RETAKE MAN O WALA...

Well said. It is really the right thing to do. I know the 42,000 examiness last June '06 NLE was divided on this issue. As for me, I have already move on.

even if there is a retake, it still will hound every board passer from now until forever as long as the culprits are scot-free.
a retake or no retake is not the solution but to file charges againts those criminals!
