LABOR Secretary Arturo Brion on Thursday gave the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) five days to explain why several students who did not pass the recent nursing board exams had been allowed to be inducted as nurses.

Brion issued the order after a panel of Department of Labor and Employment officials that he had formed to study the results of the leak-tainted tests found that some the original and recomputed scores of examinees had been altered.

“There were glaring discrepancies in the grades that the PRC needs to explain. Obviously there were manipulations,” said a member of the panel who asked not to be identified.

Brion did not go so far as to accuse the PRC of “grade-fixing,” as the panel had only examined the scores of about 400 examinees, or less than one percent of the 42,000 who took the tests.

According to the source, nearly half of the 400 examinees had scores in PRC’s original list that were different from the final list of passers that the commission issued after the leak controversy was resolved.

ANG SAKIT NMAN TANGGAPIN NA KYA KAMI MAG RERETAKE DAHIL KAMI ANG NAGBENIFIT SA LEAKAGE NA YAN... UTANG NA LOOB MARAHAS NA PARATANG NMAN ATA YAN,, HINDI AKO NAG REVIEW SA ANY OF THE SAID REVIEW CENTER KYA HOW WILL THAT HAPPEN !!!!! HAY SO UNFAIR!!!!!!! BINAGSAK KA NA NGA EVEN U HAVE THE LICENSE ANG MAS MASAKIT PAG SABIHAN KA NA NAGBENIFIT SA LEAKAGE...

was it mentioned above that those who will retake the tests are those who benefited from the leak? its normal to react, esp if ur involved, but plz, over reacting is a different thing.

The report that these investigation state is really demoralizing, after the board exam I felt bad because I knew that there was a far chance that i would pass since most of the question where subjective, now this, yes I have heard long before that its possible to pay people who are or has connection with PRC for a passing grade. but i didnt not really thought that it was true, not until after the leakage stories came out, I believe that there is truth with this investigation regarding the grades manipulation, i myself is a victim and so with many of my friends or people I know, now i only have one question, if we don't fix the credibility problem that is associated with these board exam and PRC, if wonder what the purpose of these exam would be? if you know you can just buy a passing score, in a way your license... or do we just have to accept PRC as one of the government agency that is out there to legally and illegally get money from us....

Just Thinking...nearly half of 400 out of 42000 examinees... is this even a significant sample? What was the basis of taking this sample?

Anyway...

Have These People Investigating These Aberrations Taken A Licensure Exam Administered By The Professional Regulatory Commission In Their Life?... Just Wanna Know... Coz If They Had They Know That Computations Are Subjected To Some Degree Of Manipulation... Not Just The Nursing Boards But The Cpa Boards And Other Boards Also...

I Mean These Computations And Manipulations Are Discussed In Review Centers... How The Prc Comes Up With The Grades... I Have Taken The Cpa Boards, A Cousin has taken the Medical Exam And Several Relatives Have Taken The Nle... And The Computation Has Stayed The Same...its Not Even Like Its Illegal For The Prc To Do This... Its Included In Their Mandate. Prc Has Always Had This "discretion" They Say...

Do People Actually Think That The Board Results Are Zero Based?... If That Were So, There Would Be Even More Casualties In All The Exams Administered By The Prc...

Now, If These Manipulations Were Not Acceptable Then It Won't Be The Nle Of 2006 That Is Tainted By The System But All Previous Exams Of All Professions Regulated By The Prc Are In Question...

So Are These People Pushing For A Retake Willing To Open That Pandora's Box And See It Through? If They Really Are These Outstanding People That They Say They Are Shouldn't They Fight This Through And Through...

Because If They Just Focus On The June 2006 Nle Passers... Well, It Just Seems Too Convenient...

Saying that manipulation of grades is even mandated by PRC so that more will be able to pass these board exam, is what has become the twisted moral character or philosophy of the Philippine system... We are supposed to be in the 21st century yet clingging to these stone age idea that "ok lang mag-palusot, mag-pagrasa, mag-lagay, makurakot, mandaya" and justify that these ways are needed for the system to work is.... when are we going to start making things rightfully, correctly..so that there will be meaning to the phrase "Proud to be Pinoy"

The mandate was not made to make more students pass but to standardize the education of nurses and to determine who has the minimum competency. Neither was it made to tell which nurse was a cum laude.

If that is what you think then maybe you should retake the NLE when it is already zero-based...

Imagine requiring a grade of 75% that is 75 correct answers out of a hundred in MS...nothing more and nothing less... walang pasensyahan ...walang adjust2X...Then think ilang students sa review nakakatanggap ng 75/100 sa MS mock board during review... Then imagine how many student will become nurses...

Good Luck at Dasal na lang sa mga pasyenteng walang nurse.
