Ex-PNA chief disputes alleged test leak

The former president of the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) has denied that the questions shown during the coaching session before the June 2006 Nursing Licensure Examinations came from him, ANC reported Thursday.

Dr. George Cordero told Senate investigators Wednesday that the items in the PowerPoint presentation did not come from INRESS, a review center that he owns. The presentation allegedly contained questions leaked from tests 3 and 5 of the board exam.

Cordero, however, said the questions in the two tests were different from the ones that were prepared by INRESS.

His accuser, Dennis Bautista, had said that portions of tests 3 and 5 were leaked by Cordero.

PNA, meanwhile, replaced members who quit their posts following the discovery of the exam leakage.

PNA president Marilyn Yap said the officials who stepped down were not key to the organization.

Reports identified the officials who resigned as Annabelle Borromeo, PNA Department of Nursing Research chairwoman; co-chairwoman Teresita Barcelo; and student representative Relloyd Lopez.

Yap said that PNA's Board of Nursing Governors changed its position on the exam leak controversy because it has to consider the sentiments of all members. PNA previously favored a retaking of this year's board exam.

Some 17,000 examinees out of 42,000 graduates who took the June 11-12 exam passed. However, they have yet to get their licenses after the Court of Appeals slapped a 60-day temporary restraining order against oath-taking ceremonies.
