HOSPITALS here and abroad are reluctant to hire nursing graduates who passed the nursing board examinations that were administered on June 11-12. The reluctance is understandable because cheating marred the exams.

Who would want to receive nursing care from somebody belonging to the group that took the exams?

Already, some hospitals in the United States said they would not hire Filipino nurses who graduated this year because of the cheating.

What’s the use of earning a degree in nursing if hospitals won’t hire those who “passed” the tainted exams?

Filipinos are taking up nursing in droves in the hope of finding work abroad. A registered nurse in the United States can expect to earn some $36,000 a year (P1.8 million or P153,900 a month), while his or her counterpart in the Philippines can expect to earn only $2,000 (P102,600 or P8,550 a month.).

The best way to remove the stigma of being a June “passer” is to take the board exams scheduled for December and pass them.
