Solon wants PRC nursing board to resign over leakage

A Mindanao lawmaker on Monday called on members of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Board of Nursing to resign after the panel postponed oathtaking ceremonies for 17,871 new nurses next month.

Davao Rep. Joel Mayo Almario said members of the nursing board should resign due to negligence after two board members were linked to an alleged leakage of nursing board questions.

“It is their responsibility to see to it that the exams are conducted honestly and in accordance to the rules and regulations. They should not punish the honest examinees by delaying their oathtaking," he said in a statement.

Almario, chairman of the House committee on games and amusements, said the oathtaking deferment was tantamount to saying that all 17, 871 nurses cheated during the exam.

He said the PRC should complete its investigation in two weeks and exclude from the list of passers those who cheated.

Eufemia Octaviano, chairwoman of the PRC Board of Nursing, said the August 22 oathtaking ceremony for new nurses has been postponed until the National Bureau of Investigation finishes its inquiry into the leakage.

She said she made the decision after meeting with the deans of the colleges from prominent nursing schools such as the University of the Philippines, the University of the East and the University of Santo Tomas.

Nearly 43,000 took the exams. The controversy arose after several examinees reported that copies of the test questions were distributed at a review center in Baguio City.

The PRC said the two employees, Anesia Dionisio and Virginia Madeja, who were identified as the source of the leakage were “inhibited” from their functions and were under investigation.

The board topnotcher came from the University of Pangasinan, with an 83.20-percent score. The second placer was from the University of the Philippines in Manila.

Of the schools with more than 100 examinees, Saint Louis University in Baguio City topped the performance list.

totoo man or hindi na may leakage at may nakinabang dito,di dapat ang mga studyante ang mag-suffer.hindi kasalanan ng studyante na makakuha nito, yung mga nasa prc, bon, at review center ang dapat managot.
