‘Doomed’idealist Dennis Bautista
‘Doomed’idealist Dennis Bautista
By Katrice R. Jalbuena
“I truly feel that my future in nursing is doomed,” said Dennis Bautista.
He is the June 2006 nursing licensure examinee who gained fame—or notoriety—depending on whether you are with the retake or with the no-retake side of the divide—as the first “whistleblower” to tell the world about the leakage of test questions.
“But I also believe that, a person with the correct values, if he knows the truth about something bad, has a responsibility to tell what he knows,” he added. “Now they are cursing me by text messages and on the Internet. They can’t say anything truthful against me, so they invent stories. “Lalabas rin ang katotohanan [The truth will out.]”
It hasn’t been easy for Bautista who has been grilled in the Senate, in the House and by NBI agents and other investigators. Antiretake people have questioned his character and his motives (“That fellow just wants to grab the limelight!” “He wants to become a movie star!”).
“I wanted to become a priest,” Bautista said. “But I felt that, in order to truly help my family, I needed to give up what I thought was my vocation.”
He obviously had no calling for the priesthood after all. But it is obvious that he is an idealist.
He went into sales. He set up—with some friends—a cleaning-services business. At various times, he also did some serious training in computer programming. And he almost became a Pagcor dealer. These were all before he became a full-time nursing student and eventually finished and took the June 2006 exam.
Don Bosco boy
Bautista attended Don Bosco, Mandaluyong, for his elementary and high school. He was a scholar and a student leader. He was a member of the student council and president of the St. Dominic Savio Friends Club. St. Dominic Savio, a student, was the foremost follower of St. John Bosco, founder of the Salesians.
Bautista graduated with a degree in Electronic Communications Engineering.
OFW father
Born to a family of four, one of Bautista’s sisters is a nurse. His other sister is a medical technician working in the United States. He has an older brother stricken with polio and confined to a wheelchair.
His father was an OFW in Kuwait who died just before Bautista entered college. Just before Bautista took up the role of NLE-leakage “whistleblower” his mother left for the US where she now lives with his sister.
It was obviously to get a well-paying job quickly in the USA that made him enroll at the Philippine College of Health Sciences.
As a PCHS nursing graduate and examinee, Dennis had the opportunity to attend the review classes in all three review centers which have been found liable for leaking test material to their students during the final reviews.
The PCHS and Ingress Review Centers are both owned by George Cordero, former president of the Philippine Nurses’ Association. The PCHS students got to attend the Ingress reviews for free.
“Pero ’yung nanay ko, para sigurado, enrolled me also in the Pentagon Review Center,” said Bautista. His mother was anxious about having him go to the USA and be with her and his sister.
“I was happy with the review courses in Pentagon. But other nursing graduates also advised me to take my final coaching in Gapuz. Maganda daw diyan,” Bautista said.
On June 6 and 7 Bautista attended the final coaching sessions of the Ingress Review center at the SM Cinemas. While he was there, the topics taken up were only psychiatric nursing and medical-surgical. The instructors told them that these were the only “important” part of the exam. He said the instructors told them, “Kaya na ninyo ’yung iba.”
Bautista was aware that many of the instructors of Pentagon had at one time or another been members of the PRC. Sometimes students found the answer to a question hard to accept or understand, so they asked the instructors to explain. Each time this happened the instructor queried would say “Basta, ’yan ang sagot,” leaving no room for argument or more queries.
PRC connections
Bautista recalls that the reviewees and sometimes instructors would “joke around, saying that they had connections at the PRC so if they said ‘lalabas to sa exam” lalabas talaga. Nag-joke sila na ‘nananaginip sila ng sabay-sabay’ as to what would actually come out in the exam.”

DI NAMAN LAGI TAMA ANG REVIEWER. SIGURO NGA NAKAPAG-CONTRIBUTE SILA SA TEST BANK NG EXAMS OR TUMULONG SA BOARD MEMBERS PERO IT'S A LONG SHOT NA SA LAHAT NG QUESTIONS, YUNG BINIGAY OR KINONTRIBUTE NILA ANG MAILAGAY SA ACTUAL EXAMS.
KELANGAN MO PA RING MAG-ARAL DUDE!!! IN THE END IKAW AT UTAK MO ANG MAG-EEXAM HINDI YUNG REVIEWER.

Scholar? Leader idealist? Kung sino man ang author ng article na yan dapat gumawa man lang ng kaunting research. Kung totoo ba talaga. Sa PCHS, hindi nga yan nagiging leader. Dennis Bautista can not even articulate well in the class if there were some discussions.
80 thousand for kaplan review? That's a big lie.

Posted by Anonymous | 10:26 AM
YOU'RE A FAKE!!!
