N. Mindanao passers hold 'No Re-take' rally
By Lino Dela Cruz and Stephen Capillas

ILIGAN CITY -- Hundreds of passers of the June 2006 nursing board examination here and in the two Lanao provinces held a peaceful rally Thursday morning to give support to their co-passers in Northern Mindanao on their joint stand that there should be no board retake.

Last week, nursing board passers in Northern Mindanao met in Cagayan de Oro City and took a stand on "No Retake."

The nursing board passers met with Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Cruz to air their stand and ask for support from the local executive.

Cruz said he is supporting the "No Retake" stand of the nursing board passers here because it is apparent that they did not benefit from the nursing board leakage.

"Only those examinees from areas, which are already identified in the investigation as having benefited from the 'leak' must take the examination again," Cruz said.

But President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has yet to make a decision whether to push through with the "retake" move after the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) decided that there will be no retaking of the nursing board examination.

The Palace said it will evaluate the merits of the case before deciding whether or not to issue the order.

Both the City Council of Cagayan de Oro and the Misamis Oriental Provincial Board voiced their support for the nurses in separate resolutions filed last Monday.

An Alliance for Concerned Nurses, Northern Mindanao chapter, a group of nursing board examinees will hold a rally scheduled sometime Friday in Cagayan de Oro to ventilate their sentiments against the retaking of the nursing board.

The members said they are "voicing their disgust" over the recent moves by the National Government ordering a retake of the nursing exams for 2006.

The march rally starts at the Capitol University grounds and end up at the City Kiosk in Divisoria, Cagayan de Oro City.
