Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) chairman Leonor Tripon Rosero told lawmakers on Wednesday that the agency has no plans to conduct a retake of the controversial nursing board examinations.
Rosero insisted that a formula to recompute scores was enough to restore the credibility of the tests.
“What we did was we removed 90 items from Test 5, then got the average of tests 1 to 4, and then got the average of tests 1 to 5. We compared the two results and took the final average," the PRC chairperson told members of the House of Representatives committees on justice and on civil service and good government
She noted that there were 500 items in the exams, or 100 for each of five nursing subjects.
Only 17,821 out of 42,006 examinees passed the Nurse Licensure Examination given by the PRC's Board of Nursing on June 11 and 12.
On the other hand, Dante Ang, head of the Presidential Task Force on National Licensure Examination for Nurses, urged a retake on Tests 3 and 5, where questions were reportedly leaked to some examinees.
“The retake is necessary because the controversy has already dampened the credibility and integrity of all those who passed the nursing board test," Ang said, during a joint hearing of the House of Representatives justice committee and committee on civil service and government.

The House approved on second reading on Tuesday the addition of P14 million in the supplemental budget to fund a retake of the tests.
Nursing graduate Dennis Bautista who had earlier testified on the leakage told lawmakers that he has been receiving death threats since he appeared before the Senate earlier this month.
Cavite Rep. Jesus Crispin Remulla called on officials of the PRC and its nursing board to resign and give way to a revamp.
"I call on the resignation of the PRC and (nursing board) officials because the leakage scandal will hound them forever. No one is indispensable and this is for our country," Remulla said.
PRC and nursing board officials said during the hearing that they will await the outcome of an ongoing investigation before deciding on whether to take up Remulla’s challenge.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on Tuesday said she will issue an executive order placing the PRC under the Department of Labor and Employment and the nursing board under the Commission on Higher Education for easier monitoring of their activities during Cabinet meetings.-GMANews.TV
